Buying Gabions: Your Guide to Frequently Asked Questions

Gabionen

Introduction

Gabions are versatile elements for garden design that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. Whether as a fence, raised bed or decorative element, our gabions offer a robust and individual solution for every garden. In this article we answer some of the most frequently asked questions about our products, how to order them and their properties.

What are hot-dip galvanized gabions?

One of the most common questions we receive concerns the type of galvanization of our gabions. In addition to the standard electrogalvanized models, at Gabiona we also offer hot-dip galvanized gabions. These are considered the "premier class" in corrosion protection. In contrast to the electrogalvanized models, which receive a zinc-aluminum coating, hot-dip galvanized gabions are pre-formed and welded in our factory. They are then dipped in a 450 °C hot zinc bath, with the liquid zinc completely enclosing all parts of the wire, including welding and interfaces. After cooling, a durable and robust protective layer is formed, which offers optimal protection against corrosion.

Delivery times for hot-dip galvanized gabions

The delivery time for standard hot-dip galvanized gabions is approximately one week. For custom-made items that are made exactly to customer specifications, you should expect a delivery time of up to three weeks. We always strive to process your order as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Dealing with visible welding and galvanization traces

It is not unusual for newly galvanized gabions to initially have slight traces of soot or white, powdery residues. These are a normal part of the manufacturing process and do not represent a quality defect. Rainwater usually helps to remove these residues after a short time.

Exchange and return of gabions

Standard gabions from our range can be exchanged or returned without any problem. Please note, however, that custom-made gabions are non-returnable as they are custom-made. We recommend that you check all dimensions and specifications carefully before ordering.

Shortening and editing the grids

The mesh of our gabions is carefully crafted and provided with corrosion protection. If you need to shorten a mesh, we recommend using bolt cutters to avoid damaging the corrosion protection. With hot-dip galvanized mesh, it is important to additionally treat the cut surfaces with a zinc spray after shortening to ensure long-term protection.

Conclusion

Gabions are an excellent choice for anyone who wants to design their garden individually and stylishly. They not only offer protection and privacy, but also the opportunity to create creative and unique landscape elements. With the right care and handling, your gabions will be a highlight in your garden for many years. Do you have any further questions? Contact us at any time - we will be happy to advise you!
